The Oxford pocket dictionary defines the term Superfood as:

A natural food regarded as especially beneficial because of its nutrient profile or its health-protecting qualities.

Acai berries are at the very top of the list of super foods. Not so long ago before the acai berry exploded onto the American scene, Blueberries were regarded as the top super food in the form of fruit because of the amount of antioxidants they contain. However, acai berries have been found to contain a little over 7 times the antioxidants that blueberries do. Many of you have heard of acai berries because of the weight loss associated with them, and they do in fact promote weight loss but, more than that they promote a healthy energized body.

Acai berries are found in the Brazilian rain forest and have been eaten by the people there for hundreds of years. The Brazilian people know that this berry possesses extremely powerful properties. While they might not know why, or what, makes these little berries so special they know that the berries make them feel better so they eat them. The acai berry was made popular by Bestselling author and anti-aging expert Dr. Nicholas Perricone who has made claims that the berry is the "Number one super food in the world". Also, everyone's favorite daytime talk show host, who is somewhat a super power herself... Oprah has backed the product as well, boosting its popularity even more.

Although. The acai berry is not the only antioxidant containing super berry on the list of super foods. Another big player in the super berry competition comes from the opposite side of the world and has been used for much longer than the acai. The Goji berry has been used for more than 6,000 years by traditional herbalists in the eastern world, and is also full of essential antioxidants and possesses many wonderful health benefits. The Goji berry has been linked to the prevention of caners and certain vision problems. Like the acai, the goji berry supports and boosts the immune system naturally.

Both of these berries should be considered an excellent addition to anyone's diet, and because they both possess high amounts of antioxidants the health benefits are almost endless. No matter what the latest fad is antioxidants, in whatever form they happen to come in, are essential to life and must be consumed in an effort to live life to the fullest.
