Spirulina, also known as phytoplankton, is a blue-green, simple, single-celled algae that live in warm waters and fresh alkaline. Named for its spiral shape, spirulina is probably one of the oldest forms of life on Earth, in 3600000000 years. Spirulina is known as a "super food because its nutrient for plants, or more concentrated than any other food.
Of the three main types of algae (blue-green algae, spirulina and chlorella), Spirulina is the easiest to digest and, Record because the cell walls of mucopolysaccharides of indigestible cellulose. Chlorella digestibility requires special processing of an outer cell wall hard to improve, but is valued for its ability to bind heavy metals and lead them from the body. Wild blue-green algae has remarkable healing properties but can transform into an exceptionally toxic plant under certain conditions. Freeze-drying is to denature these toxins.
Spirulina is surprisingly richessential nutrients. It contains 23 000 IU of vitamin A per 10 grams, and ten times that of carrots on a per gram. This is a very rich source of chlorophyll, phytochemicals useful in reducing mutagenic, natural and man-made toxins that can cause mutations in body cells.
Super Food
Of particular interest to vegetarians, the fact that over 60% protein content, spirulina is the strongest source of protein and more digestible is well known, contains all eight essential amino acids, as well as 10 of the 12nonessential amino acids. Many vegetarians argue that Spirulina is the only plant source of vitamin B12, although this view was by Stephen Byrnes, ND, PhD, RNCP, author of the detailed article called into question "The Myths of Vegetarianism", originally published in the Letter Townsend for Doctors and Patients, July 2000. Complaints Dr. Byrnes, "B12 analogues in algae and tempeh are not bioavailable. We know this because the studies on human blood levels of vitamin B12 has been madeimmediately after eating spirulina and tempeh, there has been no change, clearly indicating no absorption by the body. "
Calgary-based naturopathic physician Dr. Bruce Lofting, confirms this view. must, says Dr. Lofting, "At the time of my academic training as a doctor to be, we have been taught that a significant amount of vitamin B12 from food was only from animal sources, that while some B12 in plant sources have been negligible. I have not come for alltrustworthy record since then that says otherwise. I still recommend that a vegan B12 supplement, perhaps in a quality multivitamin, or as a separate pill. I would not try to feel good to do it from Spirulina or other plants. "
Still, a powerhouse of nutrients, Spirulina, rich in vitamins A, E and B complex Spirulina contains chelated versions of potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, phosphorus and iron. In reality, at least one laboratory studydemonstrated that the iron content in Spirulina equivalent to that of beef. "Chelate" means fixed or related, usually an amino acid or other biological components so that the two do not disassociate in the digestive system. nutrient absorption is improved.
Spirulina is also one of the best sources of GLA, or gamma-linolenic acid, omega "good" -6 essential fatty acids. With all the recent hype about Omega-3 fatty acids and the importance of maintaining a healthy balancebetween omega-3 and omega-6, it was always short.
Says Dr. Andrew Weil, clinical professor of internal medicine and the founder and director of the Program for Integrative Medicine (PIM) at the University of Arizona in Tucson, "[GLA] has specific nourishing effects on skin, hair and nails that are not duplicated by omega-3 fatty acids ... It 's true that a high ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the diet promotes inflammation, favoring the synthesis ofpro-inflammatory hormones (prostaglandins). But the amount of GLA treat eczema and other skin diseases (500 milligrams twice a day) is too small to significantly affect this relationship. "
There are about 130 milligrams of GLA per 10 grams of Spirulina.
Spirulina is rich in antioxidants, good food that kids eat free radicals (atoms with unpaired electrons) as voracious piranha. You unmarried to disable them, vandalismThe electrons that have been identified as the main villains in the aging process. Not only improve but also the entire antioxidant process of food metabolism that fewer free radicals are generated in the first place. This increases oxygen utilization and reduced oxidative damage.
Spirulina is a true "Super Food".
